Art with a Heart

I wanted to post some special art for Valentine's day so I selected 2 artists with a leaning toward lyrical fanciful illustrations- the one and only Andy Warhol who did the two cats below and Maria Luque, a contemporary artist from Buenos Aires, with a bent toward wry witty colorful drawings. What artists are you thinking about on this holiday?

artists have birthdays too

Claus Oldenburg had a birthday last wknd- Saturday January 28th. This wonderful picture shows him in 1962 with his infamous cone sculpture and is courtesy of Pace Gallery. 

His work, among others, is currently on view in the Freedman Gallery here at Albright in celebration of another birthday- it is in fact the 40th anniversary year of the gallery.

When we take student groups through this exhibit we will be discovering the birthdays of many of the artists on display. Just for fun. I think it helps to demystify artists to learn little things about them. 

When is your birthday? Maybe it is the same date as a famous artist!
